[Everyday Miracles:
Experiences with the Supernatural - Scientific Findings]
|
Paranormal experiences are more common than the public and the scientific community have so fare assumed. This is only one result of one of the most comprehensive empirical investigations into extraordinary experiences in Germany, of which the most important findings are published in this volume. In the context of a representative survey more than 1500 persons from all over Germany were asked their attitudes and experiences. The probably most spectacular result: almost three-fourths of the interviewed persons stated to have had at least one extraordinary experience which, in the widest sense, could be classified as an ESP experience. More than 200 of the respondents spoke in comprehensive, semi-structured interviews about their experiences, personal interpretations and the effects of their experiences. The various articles in this volume provide a comprehensive and multi-layered picture of the phenomenology of life-world interpretation, and the individual as well as social coping with such experiences. The systematically quantitative and qualitative analyses allows not just for deep insights into a, by the empirical social sciences so far widely ignored, field of experiences but also demand a rethinking of the relation between scientific and life-experience realities, and the connection of individual experience and collective interpretation processes. |
