International Interdisciplinary
Workshop on Determinism
Ringberg Castle,
Rottach-Egern, Germany
June 4 - 8, 2001
Organized by Robert Bishop and Harald Atmanspacher
The goal of the workshop is to bring
together representatives of different disciplines (mathematics,
physics, behavioral and cognitive science, philosophy) to discuss
various crucial aspects of the concept of determinism.
Some core questions:
-
Is it possible to give a precise definition for determinism in particular disciplines?
- What are the foundations/implications of determinism in
particular disciplines?
- What similar/different roles does determinism play in
particular disciplines?
- How do different concepts of determinism relate among
different disciplines?
- What are the differences between ontological and
epistemological concepts related to determinism?
- What relationships do different disciplines offer between
determinism on one hand and randomness, stochasticity,
prediction, causality, contingency, constraint, volition and
free will on the other?
- What implications do concepts of determinism in different
disciplines have on broader social or cultural
questions?
